NRSPL Rules

New Rule in 2011 ÒFORCE PLAY @ HOMEÓ

ALL Divisions will use the Commitment Line at home (See SPOA rulebook). Defensive player at home can touch the runner, between the lines, or touch home as a force play!    The rule will be as it reads in the Rulebook! Any contact between runners and Defensive player(s) at home may result in ejections!

BATTING ORDER:

Your Batting order in our league is unlimited, from a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 17!  You can bat everyone on your bench, or bat less than 17 and substitute for any player that is in the starting lineup, with someone that is not in the starting lineup!

PLAYERS:

The minimum number of players to start a game is eight!  IF a team starts with 8 or 9 players, the 8th and 9th spots in the batting order are NOT automatic outs!

If a team starts a game with 8 players and the team drops below 8 because of injury or ejection of player(s), the game is forfeited!  The game is not considered a forfeit (see further rules regarding forfeits below) if it has started and ends because of this, so both teams are still responsible for paying an umpire and no refund is in order!

IF a 9th –or- 10th player shows up after a game has started, he can be inserted at the bottom of the batting lineup and into the field as soon as he shows up, even if the team has gone through the batting order already!

IF a team starts a game with 10 or more players, and a player shows up late, he can be put at the bottom of the order ONLY IF the team has not gone through the Batting order. Once the leadoff batter goes to bat for the 2nd time, the player cannot be added to the bottom of the lineup, and can be added only as a substitution for a player in the starting lineup!

IF a team starts with 9 or 10 players, and someone leaves or an injury occurs, the spot in the batting order becomes an AUTOMATIC OUT!

IF a team starts with 11 or more players, and someone leaves or is injured, the spot(s) do NOT become automatic outs until you drop below 10!

FORFEITS

If a team forfeits a game because of lack of players, or does not show up for a scheduled game, this team is responsible for PAYING BOTH UMPIRES ($50.00), either right at the park, when it happens, or it must be paid BEFORE the teamsÕ next scheduled game!   If not paid at the game when it happens, or in days before the next game, the umpires for your next game will be looking for the money   for the forfeit, + the money for that game!  The opposing team will receive 2 pts for a forfeit win!  There will be fines levied to teams

COURTESTY RUNNERS:

This is in exception to the S.P.O.A. Rulebook!

Each team is permitted a maximum of 5 Courtesy Runners in a game.  Courtesy runners may be anyone on your roster, whether they are in the batting order, or not! They must be announced to the umpire as they are used. (i.e.: ÒCourtesy Runner #3 Mr. UmpireÓ..

Teams are also permitted to have ONE player who will get a ÔfreeÕ runner every time he gets on base, and is NOT charged AS ONE OF YOUR OTHER 5 Courtesy runners. This shall be known as the ÒMan RuleÓ, in tribute to one of the slowest runners that ever played in the league!  This player must be identified to the Home Plate umpire, as soon as he gets on base for the 1st time!  ÒMr. Umpire, this player will be the ÒMan RuleÓ runner!Ó  IT cannot change later in the game.

CURFEWS:

No inning will start after 80 minutes have elapsed from the start of the 1st game!

The 2nd & 3rd games will be timed from the 1st pitch of the game!

10 Minutes GRACE PERIOD is allowed from the scheduled start time for a team to field 8 players! As soon as a team has 8 players, the game will start. There is no grace period for any team waiting for their 9th or 10th players, the game must start!

EXTRA  INNINGS:

If a game is tied after 9 innings, and the curfew has NOT been reached, the teams will play ONE extra inning to break the tie.   In the extra inning, the last scheduled batter of the previous inning will start at 2nd base,  and no more than this one extra inning can be played. TIED games will count in the standings as one point, if they happen!

GROUND RULES  at McCaffery Park:

The edge of Stone path will be the out-of-play line in right field of Dia#2 and leftfield on Dia#1! The fence that extends down the opposite sides of these diamonds is the out-of-play line. Diamonds #3 & #4 have fences down both lines for out-of-play line(s)!

JEWELLERY RULE:

ONE WARNING will be given to each team, not each player!

The second infraction will be an automatic out, as per Slo-Pitch Ontario rules.

If a player has been warned or called out and does not remove the jewellery, the player is removed from the game.

MERCY RULE:  12 Runs/7 Innings

Visiting team ahead by 12 runs after 7 or 8 complete innings!

Home team ahead by 12 runes ANYTIME after visiting team has batted 7 times, and the game is over IMMEDIATELY!

EG:  Home Team goes up by 12+ in the bottom of the 7th –or- 8TH inning, with none out, and GAME OVER RIGHT AWAY!

PITCHING

Umpires will be enforcing the arc at ALL Times.

Pitcher must pause before delivering each pitch.

NEW in 2011

There is an imaginary rectangle box that extends 10 feet back of the rubber, and the pitcher can stand anywhere, as long as one foot is in contact with this box.

The pitcher is allowed only ONE step back or forward with the delivery of the pitch.

IF he takes more than one step, an ILLEGAL PITCH will be called.

WARMUPS:

Pitchers can take THREE warm-up pitches in the 1st inning, and only ONE after. NEW pitchers take 3 warm-up pitches when making their 1st appearance !

WARMUP INFIELD and/or OUTFIELD BALL is allowed in the 1st inning only! Not allowed after the 1st inning, even if a new fielder comes into the game!

Players playing in Two Divisions

It has been decided by the Executive that the following Rules will be in effect for the 2011 season, which will read as follows:

Any player wishing to play for a 2nd or 3rd Team in the league, will not be allowed to drop more than 2 (TWO) Divisions, with the exception of any player who plays in Division I, will be allowed to drop only 1 (One) Division.

Eg: Play on team in Div. 1 – You can drop only to Div. 2

Play on team in Div. 2 - You can drop to Division 4

Play on team in Div. 3 - You can drop to Division 5

Play on team in Div. 4 - You can drop to Bottom Division

If any player wishes to drop more than 2 Divisions, and we feel it is a fair           request, we will approve this, but a written appeal must be made to

 Don Bowers, via email

It goes without saying that no player can play for another team in the SAME Division, and further to that, any player caught, will be suspended from further play for the rest of season!  Exceptions made in emergencies, where a team is short players on a given night, and the other team approves the addition in front of the umpire
