COED DIVISION RULES – 2009
Using 2008 SPO Coed Rules as per Handbook with the following exceptions:
F.Y.I., THE RULEBOOK CALLS FOR USE OF THE MAT, AND WE USE IT. BEWARE. That the Mat & Bases are supplied at McCaffery Park, but all teams must be prepared to put out the Mat & Bases at Grapeview, Grantham Lions and Lancaster #2 Diamond. The HOME team is responsible for putting out the bases & Mat! Bases are 65’, and the rubber mat is 2’ X 3’, just cut out a piece of rubber or even wood and use that! Minimum # Players: Teams can start with 8 players, 4 of which MUST be Females! “Let’s Play Ball”>> Teams can loan players from other Teams! The idea of Friday night Coed is to play the game!
Grace period: Umpire will give you 15 minutes to field 8 players (4+4). Once you have 8 (4+4), the game will start! Others join in when they arrive.
Batting Order MUST always ALTERNATE, man, lady, man, lady etc. If you have more of one sex than the other, put Men on one side of score sheet and Ladies on the other side, but absolutely never bat 2 of the same sex in a row!
If you have only 4 Ladies, and more men, you can put 6 Men + 4 Ladies in the field, But the 6th man MUST be the CATCHER! If you have more than 4 Ladies, you must use 5+5 in the field!
Courtesy Runners: You are allowed 5 Courtesy Runners in the course of the game! Male runs for Male, Female must run for female! Can be anyone on your roster!
JEWELLERY RULE: In Tournaments, Umpire will call a batter out as soon as they come to the plate with jewellery on, without warning.
In our League Play, umpires have been instructed to give
one general warning
when 1st person caught, and from that point on, it’s Batter Out!
CURFEW ON ALL GAMES! - NO inning starts after 65 minutes!” ALL games this year are back to 7 innings!
HOME RUN RULE: In effect at Grapeview, Lancaster Diamonds, McCaffery #1 and Grantham Lions! ANY MALE who hits ball over the outfield fence, whether fair or foul is an automatic OUT! MAN RULE The Man rule is for one man and one lady, to be allowed a courtesy runner anytime they reach on base.
When that Lady and or man reaches base, your coach simply calls time
and says "Man" Rule to the umpire, and that person is replaced with a courtesy runner. Besides the 2 "Man" Rule designates, you are allowed 5 more courtesy runners on top of this! Remember always, that a lady runs for a lady and a man for a man! MERCY RULE: Maximum 7 runs per inning! No Mercy Rule in effect that ends the game, but the losing team is allowed to terminate the game at any time they see fit without penalty! SLIDING is not allowed at home, but is allowed at any other base! TAGGING AT HOME: Commitment line in effect at home! No tagging runners! Always a Force play at home, just like 1st base.
150 Foot Rule is in effect for Outfielders in all divisions! NEW Rule in S.P.O.A. RULEBOOK for 2006 FORBIDS OUTFIELDERS FROM MOVING IN CLOSER THAN 150’! THE RULE ALSO STATES THAT AN OUTFIELDER CANNOT THROW A RUNNER OUT AT 1st Base on a force play!
BOTH teams must pay the Umpire CASH before the game starts, and submit a new or good used ball for the game!
PUTTING OUT BASES & MAT AT GVW, GL & La2 The HOME Team MUST set out bases for the games at Grantham Lions, Lancaster Park(s) & Grapeview. If you have NO bases/Mat, you forfeit the Home Advantage! If neither team has bases/Mat, double forfeit, and you still pay the umpire! Bases provided at all games at Joe McCaffery diamonds!
If it rains before 3 full innings complete, umpire must refund monies! If more than 3 innings played NO refund! Official game is 4-1/2 innings! The above rules in effect for ALL Regular season + Playoff Tournament games!
CANCELLED GAMES à Don’t!!!!
No room for cancellations unless absolutely necessary! IF you do, it must be done one week prior, and any cancelled games will be played Sunday nights!
